Frederik De Smedt
Bert Heytens and Frederik De Smedt are researchers and lecturers at LUCA School of Arts. As lecturers within the Mixed Media department, they focus on moving images and the cinematographic registration of space as a communication and design tool.
Through their PWO research project Que Serre Serre, they seek to rethink the traditional notion of permanent housing. They develop solutions for dynamic, adaptable housing by utilizing modular grids derived from scaffolding and greenhouse construction.
This approach emphasizes ‘light living’—spatially, socially, ecologically, and financially. By placing transience and shared living spaces at the core, they bridge diverse social and spatial systems, redefining the role of the architect as a mediator.
